About Our Document Retrieval Services

Massachusetts Document Retrieval is a BBB A+ accredited professional document service established in 1997. We specialize in obtaining official Massachusetts records directly from state and county sources — including birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, divorce records (Certificate of Divorce Absolute, Divorce NISI, and Separation Agreements), and probate files (wills, estate administrations, and legal name changes).

For vital records (birth, marriage, and death certificates), we have access to the statewide indexes maintained by the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and Statistics — covering every city and town in Massachusetts from 1936 to the present. This means we can search for and retrieve the actual certified records for births, marriages, and deaths recorded anywhere in the state, not just in specific counties. We search the statewide index to locate your record, then obtain the official certified copy directly from the Registry. Transcribed genealogy copies of historical vital records are also available for family history research.

For divorce and probate records, we retrieve court documents directly from four of the largest Probate and Family Courts in eastern Massachusetts: Bristol County, Middlesex County, Norfolk County, and Suffolk County. These four courts cover the greater Boston metropolitan area and southeastern Massachusetts, serving the majority of the state's population. Divorce records are available from 1922 to present, and probate files include wills, estate administrations, guardianships, and legal name changes.

Our service handles requests for individuals, attorneys, genealogists, and international clients worldwide. Certified copies start at $45, transcribed genealogy records at $20, and divorce court records at $35–$75 depending on document type. Standard processing takes 10–14 business days, with rush service available in 5–7 business days for an additional fee. All requests are handled with complete confidentiality — we never disclose your identity to any government office or court.

What our customers are saying

Read verified reviews from our BBB profile — real experiences from real customers.

★★★★★

"I was in Shanghai and in need of a rushed apostille copy of a divorce record to get to me in very short turnaround for a visa application. There were obstacles. China was about to go into Lunar New Year where everything shuts down for several days. And I fly out to South Africa before courier services resume. James' timely response and working out a solution to ensure I would have the document in hand when needed meant that we organized the document to go to an address in South Africa instead of China. This turned out to be the right move. 10/10. Plus, he was funny, kind, and an all-around good human being who made me feel like a whole person and that he cared about helping me get what I need. 100% recommend."

Ady C.BBB Review, January 2026

★★★★★

"Very happy with the service, I needed documents sent abroad from a courthouse outside their normal working area. They were very helpful and even though the courthouse was in western MA they got my documents apostilled and sent to me in the UK in a weeks time. Excellent service and very prompt communications!!"
