YOUR ORDERING OPTIONS: The
type of document you select depends on your personal needs for the record. If
you need the record for any legal purpose, you'll most likely need Option D or
E. If the record is for informational purposes only, than Option A, B or C is
the right choice.
OPTION
A: The fee to
search for and verify the existence of a Massachusetts divorce complaint file (sent
via an email notification) is $35. This option includes either a positive or negative find
and the year
the divorce was filed. No other specific date or information is included with this option.
It does not state if a divorce is final.
OPTION
B: The fee to search
for and photocopy a Massachusetts divorce decree (sent via postal mail) is
$45. This is a copy of the actual divorce decree and contains
the specific month, day and year the divorce was final. This document however,
can not be used for most legal purposes, such as applying for social
security or getting remarried. See OPTION D, for obtaining certified
records used in legal matters.
OPTION
C: The fee to search
for and photocopy a Massachusetts divorce decree and the divorce agreement is
$65. This
is the same as option B, but includes the details (if any) of the separation
agreement, including issues such as alimony, insurance, custody, visitation,
property ownership and or child support.
OPTION
D: The fee to
search for and
obtain a certified copy of a Massachusetts divorce record, the "Certificate Of
Absolute" [aka the "NISI"] is $75.
This is the same as option B,
but can be used for most legal purposes, such as, for example, applying
for social security, getting remarried, adopting children and applying for
citizenship. This document has an official, raised court seal.
OPTION
E: The fee to
search for and
obtain a certified copy of a Massachusetts divorce record, the "Certificate Of
Absolute" [aka the "NISI"] and a photocopy of the divorce agreement is
$100. This is the same as option D,
but includes the details (if any) of the separation agreement, including issues
such as alimony, insurance, custody, visitation, property ownership and or child
support. As with option D, it can be used for most legal purposes, such
as, for example, applying for social security, getting remarried, adopting
children and applying for citizenship. This document has an official, raised
court seal. [The agreement is not always needed in cases such as social
security, getting remarried, adopting children and applying for citizenship.
Please verify the requirements from the organization requesting the record.]
